About Us
Bwana
Paul went to South Africa in 1983 to attend college and studied Social
Anthropology. While at Wits thru 1984, our Bwana was also the photo editor for
the school paper. Soon thereafter, African Accents was born. In 1985, a retail
store in North Carolina was opened while in college at UNC-G. Then, it was time
to head west to California. The business was expanded to include wholesale
as well as a retail store in downtown La Jolla on Prospect Street. When the
wholesale grew bigger than the retail, the retail shop was to the then manager
(who I might add has done a wonderful job with our original store and it is
still doing well). African Accents,Inc currently imports from more African
nations than any other one wholesaler. The countries that are currently on the
roster for importing directly from include:
Ghana,
Ivory Coast (Cote D’Ivoire), Mali, Burkina-Faso, Nigeria, Cameroon, Zaire (D.R.C.),
Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. In the past ,the list also included
Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Togo, Liberia, Swaziland, Israel, India, Nepal,
Thailand, Turkey and Zambia.
African
Accents, Inc. currently and in the past supplied many retail shops, zoos,
museums, Mom & Pop’s stores, eBay sellers, mail-order catalogs, websites,
QVC, chains, and department stores, U.N. Centers & UNICEF shops. The range
extends throughout North & South America, the Caribbean, Europe ,Asia, even
a few in Kuwait! Our pricing structure is very typically wholesale: the
more you buy –the cheaper the prices. We do have standard/basic packs to keep
our prices low. You will notice that our larger packs are priced with incentives
for you to have the best prices available (without going to Africa yourself).
You can order directly on-line in our shopping cart, see us at one of the major
trade shows, call us, fax us, or even write us a letter by snail mail. Please
help us celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2003!
